The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has instructed states and union territories (UTs) to use mobile food testing vans, known as food safety on wheels (FSWs), to monitor the adulteration of milk and milk products in preparation for the festival of Holi.
The FSSAI has asked the commissioner of food safety in each state and UT to conduct tests on a minimum of 10 samples of milk and milk products per FSW every day, in order to strengthen efforts against milk adulteration.
An official from the FSSAI stated, “We encourage consumers to have their milk and milk products tested by the nearest deployed FSW. The test is free of charge. The objective of this initiative is to ensure the availability of safe milk and milk products for the consumers across the country.”
